I am going to go to a public highschool next year but am worried I wont fit in. I have been homeschooled since 5th grade cause I didnt fit in at my school and was bullied. So I dont really know what public shcool is like anymore. WOuld I fitin anywere?? I like black and have a kinda emo hair cut but i like playing sports but I like looking pretty and shopping I have my own style for sure i listen to countrey, pop, rock, metal, rap, hiphop and everthginy else. help!?

It only a little more difficult that people who move and start in a new school. You may not be used to quite so much socialization, so don't forget to interact.

You may find yourself ahead in certain subjects. Use your strength in these subjects to help others, it will help them and you.

What do you mean "fit in"? The fact that you are so worried about this will make your experience even worse.

You are who you are....go into school with a positive attitude and don't care what others think about you. People always look up to those who are confident, no matter what type of person they are. They stand out, because they are different but they are cool with that.

hi i can share ur situation cause i just moved into the area and am still going to my school that is now 30 minutes away...in september i am going to go to a new public high school and i am always worrying about it...just hope for the best...be nice, and ALWAYS smile

ya i went crazy when i thought i was going to highschool but once i got there it was better elementry everyone respects eachother and theres alot less teasing the enlementry

it's so much easier to find friends like you in high school since there's such a larger range of people, and most people have grown out of the stupid bullying stage. I have a few friends who were home-schooled and didn't have problems with the transition.

u will fit in with the people that are like you. in high school people tend to hang with people that have similar intrest to them. just find your group and you will do just fine.

You sound like you should fit it. But the bottom line is, high school is not the real world and it doesnt matter who you are in high school, what matters is what you do with the rest of your life. So try not worry about things like if they will like your hair. Just be friendly and you'll survive.

It won't be as hard as you think. You'll pick up the rules fairly quickly, just hang back and watch what everyone else does.

Don't be intimidated by anyone, they are just as unsure inside as you are, usually even more so. Don't change yourself to fit in, whatever you do, that never works in the long run and just makes you less happy.

Most of all don't worry, you'll do fine.

Don't worry about fitting in. Be yourself and friends will come. If you need to fit someone elses mold to be their friend then they are not really a friend. Remember a friend is someone who knows all your faults and loves you anyway.

Oh! I was homeschooled in elementary school too. My advice is: If you're starting high school, especially in a school you've never been to before, it is more likely that you will be comfortable because no one knows who you are. Also, if you see a group of people who appeal to you, hang out with them and don't try to immedietly be "cool" or "popular". Just make friends and eventually you'll move up the "hierarchy", but if you do the opposite, your setting yourself up for a fall. Public school usually has a variety of people with different interests and whatnot (as opposed to private school), and you'll most likely find people you like. Good luck!!

high school are a lot different than elementary. i always felt that i didn't fit in, but when i got to high school, i was right at home. i will have to say that taking you out of regular school because of the bulling was a bad mistake. this only will hinder you from feeling comfortable in regular school. but, it isn't as bad as you think. there will be someone out there that you will befriend, and once you make one, more will follow. just don't pick your nose or fart in front of people, and you should be fine

well yea, i do think you'll be able to fit in anywhere.

just try being yourself and make new friends. although this is harder than it sounds, just try and grow some balls and become more confident. that way people will get to see that you could care less about what they think and wont bother you.

however some people could be complete assholes so try not to let them get to you.

Just be yourself and people will like you for who you are. Don't try to change yourself to fit in. "If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything." Be an individual and keep your personal style and people will like you for that. Don't become a follower to fit in. Me personally I have been to 3 different high schools in 3 different countries. and I am now a Sr. My first high school was in the states and I also played sports which is a really good way to make friends, but i was also myself which alot of people appreciated. When I moved I didn't want too so I didn't make friends right off the bat but it came around, the people were really nice it was just me not wanting to be there. Then when I moved to where I am now my Jr. year I had the same worry you are having now. Even though most people didn't accept me there were that few who did and this is in a high school of 50 people so im sure that in a public american high school out of 3,000 students there is someone who is bound to like you :] Just don't worry about it too much and don't stress. Go out for the sports get yourself known but I cannot stress enough to just BE YOURSELF! Don't change for anyone or anything :]

you will rip girl. Unfortunly you are going to stand out being an Emo - which is a great look. You know that don't you. It is an amazing look and this style draws attention to you.

Another idea is most kids don't fit in at high school because they are all filled with emotions of growing up and being accepted. God forbid that we shojuld stand out and be different.. ...but you are girl.

You need to stand by your beliefs a and have courage to accept what you want for yourself.

Heck does it really matter what others think? I know you will find a circle of friends that will be yhour source of protection and encouragement for sure.

Bullying is never acceptable and you have experienced it haven't you. Keep an eye out for anyone who is being bullyed and become their ally to stop this at school. Perhaps it could be your mission for going to this school.

Again believe in yourself and your strength.

Do you know that being homeschool prepares you more for life than being at school. I would think from the friends I know who have been homeschooled you will be streets more mature and ahead of them. They will seem so babyish to you.

Look at joining groups of your interest - hip hop and music in that you will find like minded friends.

You have just hit on the first of two objections that I have about home schooling. Kids that are home schooled simply do not have any exposure to socialization and thus have difficult time in fitting into our society later in life.

My second objection is that home schooled kids are usually taught only the the parents' view of issues in society and thus never have the chance to learn all the options.

Take a deep breath and be calm. Remember to be polite and project confidence. Don't worry so much about fitting in. You have to flip that view around. Think about how the school experience can be tailored to fit you. You'll be fine. Wear you skin a little thick and don't try too hard.
