What's the whole point of being "Emo"?

You've seen them around..kids with hairs dyed blue/green/red all in one time, teenage boys dressed in womens jeans. I feel out of touch hence my question. What is the whole point of being "Emo"? Are they trying to send a message? Back in my days we had Goths, atleast they were talkin about death, or witches, or satan or something..Emo kids I'm not just getting what they're tryin to say?

Emo is all about posing and demanding attention. These kids claim their lives are sooooooo bad, yet usually come from nice homes, with nice parents, and have had normal nice lives. They cut simply for attention and to mock people who are genuinely in pain. They are pathetic and lame.

Well, as I don't care much for the 'emo' look, myself, I think I can help you understand why they dress like they do. Supposedly it's a sign of insecurity. For some reason or another, they've been hurt and instead of "getting help" or just getting over it normally, they choose to dress like they do and many even cut themselves. They say it relieves stress. Although, I'm not entirely sure of that. Many of them, if you were to ask them, would say that being upset and depressed and cutting yourself is the best feeling in the world. I question if they really mean that or if they've just lied to themselves for so long about being depressed that they now believe they are. They claim to be absolutely nothing like the goths. Some minds may differ with that statement, but that's a matter of opinion I guess. I know a few 'emo' people and I talk with them a lot. That's where I got a lot of my information. a) Emo's a music genre from the 1980's that is 99% dead. Emo was short for Emotive-Hardcore.

b) "Emo kids" are either depressive outcasts or people who just like the alternative clothing. Most of my friends that associate with this label says it's a big eff you to the preps. They all genuinely like the clothing, but they also feel the need to diss everyone "normal".

c) So some are saying "Help me", while others are saying "Eff you".

They can be emo for their own reasons. If they feel that they fit into that group then let them be. Is there a point to you being you?It is the same thing to an emo"Is there a point to being emo?". We all do it for our own reasons and all of them vary.
